Torrential rains have killed 29 people in northern and eastern India, regional media said on Wednesday. Twelve people died on Tuesday in Uttar Pradesh, five in Meghalaya, and four each in West Bengal, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh, the Hindu newspaper said. In Meghalaya's Garo hills district, five people were buried alive when their houses collapsed amid landslides triggered by heavy rains, the paper said. Another four people suffered a similar fate in Himachal Pradesh, when a house collapsed in the Shillai area.
