At least 30 people have died after a bus crashed in central Peru. According to officials, another nine passengers are still missing. The accident happened during the early morning hours. Officials suspect that a lack of traffic signs could have been the cause. Travel logs indicated that the bus had 52 passengers on board and was en route to the town of Satipo when it plunged some 50 metres into the Tarma river. Rescue workers struggled to get injured passengers to safety due to torrential rainfall and turbulent river currents in the area. Those recovered were rushed to hospitals in the nearby Chanchamayo region.
