The death toll has risen to more than 140, with some 120 reported missing, after storms and floods hit several Chinese provinces over the past week, the government said on Tuesday. Floods left at least 85 people dead and 105 missing in the three north-eastern provinces of Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang, state television reported. Meanwhile, Typhoon Utor left 49 dead and 10 missing in the southern provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hunan since Thursday, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said on its website. Some 1.2 million people were evacuated in the three southern provinces, most of them in Guangdong, the ministry said, according to DPA.
