A Chinese man who admitted to killing a New Zealand taxi driver last year over an argument has been sentenced to 15 years in jail. Shanghai's Second Intermediate Court handed down the sentence on Wednesday, according to a court statement. Xiao Zhen, a Shanghai resident, was convicted of intentional assault, the statement said. In addition to his 15-year jail term, Xiao will be deprived of his political rights for four years, the statement said. Xiao confessed to stabbing Auckland taxi driver Hiren Mohini with a knife over a dispute on Jan. 31, 2010. Xiao fled the scene after the stabbing; Mohini subsequently bled to death. Xiao had been studying in Auckland since 2007 at the time of the stabbing. He fled to Shanghai less than a week after the killing. He was arrested by Shanghai police in June 2010. During his trial, Xiao said he had argued with Mohini and refused to pay a taxi fare. When Mohini tried to stop him from leaving, Xiao stabbed him in the chest.
