New York - Rt
Four children, believed to be siblings, were killed in a building fire in Rochester, New York, authorities say. Firefighters are reported to have initially responded to a trash fire on the sidewalk next to the building. After extinguishing that fire they checked the surrounding area and noticed a small fire inside the first floor of a nearby woodframe apartment. They managed to rescue a woman and a child but the fire spread to the second floor, where others were trapped. The firefighters are said to have told the people on the second floor to jump out, and later called off the rescue as the flames grew too large. In addition to the children that died, four people are reported to have been injured in the blaze.
