At least one woman has died and hundreds of people injured after a tornado tore through the Colombian town of Sabanalarga, near the Caribbean coast. The 49-year old woman died of her injuries in a Barranquilla hospital on Saturday, 50 kilometers to the north of Sabanalarga. Twelve people are critically injured, most of them hit by falling trees or walls. The tornado, which appeared at around 4 pm on Friday has left about 5,000 people homeless and caused at least one thousand homes lose their roofs throughout five districts of the coastal town. \"After this natural phenomenon that has caused so much damage to this municipality I can report that over 100 people had to be given medical attention and three had to be evacuated to the city of Barranquilla to receive special care due to the nature of their injuries,\" Health Secretary for Atlantico province , David Pelaez said. A Tornado warning and severe thunderstorm watch was also issued on Friday for DC and Baltimore metro area by the US National Weather Service. According to the National Weather Service, dozens of severe tornados have so far pushed through the United States this year, and over 60 people have been reportedly killed since January. In 2011, about 545 people were killed by tornados across the US. The weather service considered last year as the deadliest tornado season since 1936.
