Three squads of Yemen's security belt forces Monday carried out a crackdown in Abyan province in southern Yemen.

The crackdown left Qaeda leader Abdullah al Saeed dead, and another element was arrested.

A statement released by the security belt forces said a shootout with the Qaeda leader also left one soldier dead and another wounded.

Another Qaeda element fled the scene after clashes between the two sides.

Another security force carried out an attack on a house in Al Wadhee directorate and arrested one Qaeda element, who was identified as Abu Osama el Yasseiri.

A source with the security forces said the crackdown operations will continue to arrest other wanted elements.
