Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, stressed that the efforts exerted by the UAE in the area of child and youth protection and care have established the country both as a leader and a pioneer in this field, through a wide number of procedures, initiatives and legislations.
These remarks were made by the Secretary General during a ceremony to honour partners of the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior that was held recently at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ).
Major General Al Nuaimi underlined the Higher Committee's support for local and international efforts, in response to the directives of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior to establish the UAE as a cultural hub and one that is a role model in the region for reinforcing child protection and safety.
Adding further, he noted that the Higher Committee and the Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior are beacons of hope for child protection, and contribute to supporting the efforts of individuals working in this field, in line with the Ministry of Interior's child protection strategy. Moreover, Major General Al Nuaimi expressed his deepest thanks and sincere appreciation for the Ministry of Interior's partners in the public and private sectors for their cooperation and diligent efforts to protect the youth and maintain the gains that have been achieved in this regard.
The attendees watched a documentary film highlighting the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Interior in the field of child protection. They also watched a theatre play presented by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC)'s students, emphasizing the importance of protecting children against neglect.
Major Dr. Mohammed Khalifa Al Ali, Director of the Ministry of Interior's Child Protection Centre, underlined the importance of partnership between the Centre and all institutions across the public and private sectors to improve child protection and develop the proper tools in accordance with the best international practices. Major Al Ali also called for expanding education amongst community members, boosting their awareness in all areas related to child protection, and implementing various initiatives and activities. Towards the end of the ceremony, the Secretary General presented commemorative shields to the honoured entities, in the presence of a number of officers.
