The Egyptian Presidency on Monday mourned the death of prosecutor general Hisham Barakat.
The presidency offered sincere condolences to Barakat's family and the Egyptian people.
In a statement, the presidency said Egypt lost a prominent judicial figure who was always committed to the profession's ethics and morals.
The perpetrators of this heinous crime would receive a severe punishment, the statement said.
Such acts will not deter the state from completing the development process, adopting rights and realizing the hopes and aspirations of the Egyptian people in security and stability, the statement added.
The presidency cancelled all planned festivities on the second anniversary of June 30 Revolution to mourn the deceased.
