Saudi holy city of Mecca.

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) leaders condemned on Wednesday the Houthi rocket attack on the Saudi holy city of Mecca.

On October 28, Saudi Arabia intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Houthi-controlled territory in Yemen towards Islam's holiest city of Mecca.

In a statement at the end of the 37th session of the GCC Supreme Council, Gulf leaders said the attack was meant to provoke Muslims' feelings and undermine the sanctity of this holy city.

Perpetrators of this terrorist attack sought to foment sectarian strife and support terrorism, the statement read.

This move reflects the rejection of Houthi militias and former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh to find a peaceful settlement to the Yemeni crisis, the statement noted.

The Gulf leaders said they will continue to support Saudi Arabia in its bids to protect its territories and holy sites.
