Thailand King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away on Thursday at the age of 89.

    "King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away peacefully at Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital at 3:52 pm on October 13 at the age of 89," Bureau of the Royal Household said in a statement carried by Thailand News Agency (TNA).

    The Thai government later announced the lowering of the national flags at half-mast at all offices nationwide for three days and a one-year official mourning period for Thai monarch, beginning from October 14, 2016.
