Vice-President of the Kuwait Amateur Radio Society Engineer Faisal Al-Ajmi has won the position of Vice President of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) during elections of the Union's General Assembly held in Bulgaria recently.
Secretary of the Kuwait Amateur Radio Society Walid Ali Abul told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) here today that Kuwait's winning of this position expresses its regional and global status in the field of wireless communications, thanks to its advanced achievements in many international tournaments and forums.
Abul added that this position provides an opportunity for Kuwait to prepare decisions and laws relating to radio frequency so as to enhance the areas of coordination and communication in the event of interruption of telephone communications, especially during natural disasters, wars and humanitarian crises.
He explained that the Society aims to develop the hobby of wireless communications between citizens and regulate its practices in accordance with applicable laws in this area, in addition to collaboration with the concerned bodies in the development of regulations regarding the granting of licenses to practice this hobby within the framework of international conventions governing the use of radio waves.
He stated that the Society prepares and carries out the necessary courses for amateurs to use radios and provide them with the necessary equipment for this purpose, in addition to its involvement in the preparation of technical staff able to provide humanitarian emergencies and relief.
