German and European champions Bayern Munich will face Major League Soccer's All-Stars in the North American league's 2014 All-Star exhibition game. MLS announced that Bayern would take the role of overseas challengers in the match at Jeld-Wen Field, the home field of the Portland Timbers on 6 August. It will mark the 11th time in the event's 19-year history that an overseas club will take on the All-Stars. Serie A heavyweights Roma beat the All-Stars 3-1 in this year's edition in Kansas City in August. In 2012 the All-Stars notched a dramatic 3-2 victory over England's Chelsea. Other clubs to appear in MLS's mid-season showcase include Manchester United in 2010 and 2011, Everton in 2009, and Chivas de Guadalajara in 2003. "It's an honour for us to be the first German club to play the MLS All-Star Game," Bayern coach Pep Guardiola said. "MLS is experiencing great development and we are very much looking forward to compete against the best players of MLS." Source: FIFA.com
