Las Palmas had goalkeeper Javi Varas

Celta Vigo and Basque minnows Eibar missed their chance to return to the top of La Liga after being held by Las Palmas and Malaga respectively on Sunday.

Vigo, held 3-3, looked well on course to move back above Barcelona after Las Palmas had goalkeeper Javi Varas sent-off after just 11 minutes for bringing down Iago Aspas.

Fabio Orellana converted the resulting penalty before Daniel Wass added a second for the hosts.

Sergio Araujo pulled a goal back, but Nolito handed Celta their two-goal cushion once more just after half-time.

Yet, despite playing for 80 minutes with a man less, the Canary Islanders salvaged a point through goals from Asdrubal Hernandez and David Simon.

Eibar, meanwhile, were happy to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw at La Rosaleda as they continued their remarkable unbeaten start to the campaign.

Villarreal moved up to fourth with a 3-1 win at Granada thanks to goals from Manu Trigueros, Cedric Bakambu and Samuel Garcia handed them a 3-1 win at Granada.

Athletic Bilbao got their first league win of the season as Aritz Aduriz scored twice in a 3-1 victory over Getafe.

Aduriz nodded the hosts into an early lead before Raul Garcia's scored on his debut to double the lead.

Emiliano Velazquez halved the deficit 21 minutes from time, but another calm finish from Aduriz propelled Athletic from bottom of the table into the top half.
