Rafael Marquez Lugo scored twice in the second half as Guadalajara caused a surprise in the Apertura by winning 3-1 at Club America. Club America had a chance to go third in the table at the start of the day but were left in fifth place. Marco Jhonfai Fabian put Guadalajara ahead with a close-range header in the 35th minute, cancelled out five minutes later when Juan Carlos Medina showed smart footwork and a precise finish. Guadalajara came out strongly in the second half and Marquez was rewarded in the 59th minute for a purposeful run when his strike took a deflection and wrong-footed Hugo Gonzalez. His second goal was all his own work, and a stunning strike, as he turned well and curled a left-footed shot from 25 yards over Gonzalez from a starting point to the right of goal.
