Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez said on Monday that he is confident of extending his contract with the club until 2016. Gomez has scored nine goals in his last five appearances in all competitions and took his tally for the season to 23 Bundesliga goals with the winner in Saturday\'s 2-1 win at home to Hanover. His current contract is due to expire in 2013. \"The probability of me renewing my contract is very strong. I feel good,\" said the 26-year-old, who is bidding to become the German top-flight\'s top scorer for the second season in succession. Gomez\'s comments were echoed by his agent, Uli Ferber, who revealed that talks with Bayern were ongoing. \"We\'ve had excellent discussions with Bayern and they all want an extension,\" he said. \"It could happen very soon.\" Gomez is only five goals from equalling his record of 28 strikes in a single league campaign, which he set last season. He has scored 36 goals in all competitions, including a quadruple in the 7-0 thrashing of FC Basel in the Champions League earlier this month. His four goals against the Swiss side took his total in this season\'s competition to 10 -- two less than tournament top scorer Lionel Messi of Barcelona. Gomez joined Bayern from his formative club Stuttgart in the summer of 2009 for a Bundesliga record transfer fee of 30 million euros ($39.9m).
