Liverpool will play Roma in a pre-season friendly in the US for the second time in two years, promoters said Wednesday. The warm-up match for the 2014-2015 campaign will be staged July 23 at Fenway Park, the home of Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox, who like Liverpool are owned by Fenway Sports Group. The two sides met at Fenway Park 2012 when Roma won 2-1 in front of more than 37,000 fans at the famed ballpark in its centennial year. "Liverpool and AS Roma are two of the most highly regarded clubs in all of football and we are thrilled to welcome them back to Boston," said Fenway Sports Group chairman Tom Werner, who is also chairman of both Liverpool and the Red Sox. "The atmosphere at their first Fenway match was electric, and with both clubs' passionate supporters, tremendous worldwide following and strong ties to the City, the rematch is sure to be memorable." For Liverpool, the match will kickoff a pre-season tour that is set to include matches in Chicago, New York and Charlotte as well, although details of those matches have yet to be announced.
