Tipasa - Arab Today
Amina Rouba won on Friday the first gold medal for Algeria in the category of senior women (Skiff/lightweight), in the 10th African Rowing Championships (juniors/seniors) which started Thursday morning at the Boukerdène dam in Sidi Amar (Tipasa), with the participation of 109 competitors from 19 countries.
The Algerian athlete clocked 8:19.49, to beat the Egyptian Rashed Fatima, silver medalist (8:27.05) and Tunisian Krimi Khadija who obtained bronze (8:43.54).
Five Algerian rowers earned Thursday their ticket to the semifinals of the African championship. They are Sid Ali Boudina of the category of seniors (Skiff/lightweight), Douki Tiziri (juniors Skiff), Chouki Lebza and Kamra Ben Mohamed (Double Scull), Adlene Al-Arabi (juniors / Skiff) and Mehdi Mechti (Skiff/heavyweight).
The semifinals and finals (Group 1) take place on Friday, while those in Group 2 are scheduled for Saturday.
A total of 109 competitors from 19 countries are takingpart in the 10th African Rowing Championship (juniors/seniors), including Algeria, which is represented by 18 rowers.
