A number of Kuwaiti fans have extolled the initiative taken by the leadership to designate two airplanes to transport the Kuwaiti fans to Riyadh to support the Kuwaiti team playing in the ongoing 22nd Gulf Cup tourney.
Nasser Al-Mutairi told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Saturday that the Kuwaiti fans had a good impact on the performance of the team, which gave them the impetus to win over Iraq last night 1-0. He expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Director General of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Mansur Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and the political leadership for this initiative and for making the trip to Riyadh a success.
For his part, Ahmad Al-Kandari said in a similar statement to KUNA that the Kuwaiti fans played an essential factor in winning the match against Iraq, hailing the initiative of the Public Authority for Youth and Sport, wishing the Kuwaiti football team all the best. (end) The Kuwaiti national football team snatched their first three points in the 22nd Gulf Cup through a hard-won victory against the Iraqi team 1-0 in their Group B encounter at Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Stadium here Friday evening. The UAE team tied 0-0 with Oman.
The 22nd Gulf Cup of Nations' tournament, or the Arabian Gulf Cup, got underway here on Thursday. It is scheduled to proceed till 26th of the month.
First group: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Yemen and Bahrain. Second: Kuwait, Iraq, the UAE, Oman. The First Gulf Cup tournament took place in 1970, and was won by the Kuwaiti team.
