President of the Board of Directors and Director-General of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS) in Kuwait, Sheikh Ahmad Mansour Al-Sabah, said here on Friday that the 22nd Gulf Cup tourney is an important and historic event to the people of the region.
Sheikh Ahmad told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the Gulf Cup tournament has contributed significantly to the prosperity of football in the region through the big formal and popular attention that accompanied each round.
He pointed out that this Arab Gulf grouping embodies the convergence and has increased cohesion among peoples of the Gulf nations since the launch of the first round more than four decades ago in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
He expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for the hospitality and warm reception and the efforts aimed for the success of the Gulf tournament.
