Supreme Council for Youth and Sports deputy general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar gave thumbs up to Bahrain national cycling team, who returned from Sharm El Shaikh, in Egypt, after coming sixth overall at the recently-concluded Arab Championship.


The nationals were given a warm welcome, having won silver medal to finish in the top six of this challenging regional championship.

Algeria emerged overall winners with 17 medals in total (10 gold medals, 4 silver and 3 bronze), with host nation Egypt coming second with 9 medals (5 gold, 4 silver), and the UAE (1, 2, 2) third. Morocco (4, 0, 5) were fourth, followed by fifth-placers Iraq (0, 1, 3).

The Bahrain delegation was headed by Bahrain Cycling Association member Yousef Jawad and includes coach Abdulla Ali and four riders – Mohammed Ebrahim, Kumail Abdulla, Jassim Mohammed and Ahmed Nasser.

In his meeting with delegation members at the committee premises in Seef, Askar said he is proud for the outstanding results achieved by the Bahraini athletes at regional and international competitions, including the cycling team which had an honorable finish at the Arab Championship.

Askar vowed to continue the committee’s support to BCA and to all other national sports federations, which is part of a massive plan to achieve remarkable results on the international level.
