Thailand's Prom Meesawat struck a one-under-par 71 to maintain his share of the lead with Sweden's Rikard Karlberg in the second round of the King's Cup on Friday.
Korea's Mo Joong-Kyung, 42, trailed in third place with a 68 in the $1 million Asian Tour event at the Black Mountain Golf Club in Hua Hin.
Despite dominating play at the season-ending tournament, Prom remained cautious about his chances of victory.
"It's going to be a tough weekend as the door is still open for everyone. I just want to maintain my composure and get an under-par score for the next two days," he said.
The 29-year-old, who hails from the coastal town of Hua Hin, is also aiming to seal his place with Team Asia at the inaugural EurAsia Cup in Malaysia in March.
"I know I still have an outside chance of earning my place in the EurAsia Cup and if I do well this week, the result will basically take care of that," said Prom, according to a report from the Asian Tour.
Karlberg made a late comeback with two birdies in his last three holes to prevent home favourite Prom from taking the outright lead.
The Swede struggled under gusty conditions and was two-over in his second round after 12 holes, but a birdie on the 13th restored some confidence.
"It was a horrible round for 12 holes. I really struggled. I didn't play well and the putts didn't fall... But the wind came down the right way on 17 and 18 and I was glad I finished off well," said Karlberg.
The tournament is the final event of the season on the Asian Tour calendar.
