Holders Sri Lanka won the toss and put England into bat in a crucial World Twenty20 group game at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi on Saturday.
The Eoin Morgan-led side, which needs a victory to ensure a place in the semi-finals, included fit-again opener Alex Hales in the starting line-up in place of James Vince.
Sri Lanka, who also need a win to stay in the hunt for a place in the last four, brought in medium-pacer Dasun Chanaka in place of veteran seamer Nuwan Kulasekara.
