American Joe Kovacs won the men's shot put at the world championships in Beijing on Sunday.

Kovacs heaved a best of 21.93 metres to dash David Storl's bid for a hat-trick of world titles, the German claiming silver with 21.74m.

Jamaican O'Dayne Richards took bronze with 21.69m.
