A crash during a race killed Yuri Semenchev, a driver who had been rapidly rising through the ranks of Russian motorsports, officials said. Semenchev\'s car hit railings during the sixth stage of the Russian Racing Championship at a track in Smolensk, southwest of Moscow, ITAR-Tass reported Monday. The driver, who was 49, began racing in 2010. He was ranked fifth individually in the Super-Production class and third in the team classification in 2011.
