Wayne Rooney was not named on the Manchester United team-sheet for the Premier League showdown at Liverpool on Sunday, amid media reports he had suffered a head injury. Several British newspapers reported that the England striker sustained the injury, which required stitches, in an accidental collision with a team-mate during training on Saturday. He did not arrive at Anfield on the United team bus and was not included in manager David Moyes\'s match-day squad, with midfielder Ryan Giggs taking his place in the starting XI. United defender Rio Ferdinand told Sky Sports: \"It\'s disappointing, but whatever\'s happened has happened. We can\'t go back. \"We\'ve got quality players in the dressing room who can fill that void, so we\'ll just wait and see.\" Rooney had been seen leaving United\'s Carrington training centre with his head in bandages on Saturday. It raises doubts about his ability to take part in England\'s forthcoming World Cup qualifiers at home to Moldova, on Friday, and away to Ukraine, on September 10. Source: AFP
