Palestinian parliamentarian Jameil Al Majdalawy revealed that the Palestinian Authority divided between supporters and opponents of Oslo Agreement, saying that the Israeli occupation used the agreement to expand its settlement activities in the Palestinian territories and to undermine the right of Palestinian people to establish their own and independent state.
He stressed, in an interview with “Arabs Today”, that the Israeli side violated the agreement many times before and committed a large number of violations against the Palestinian people since the beginning of the crisis, saying that the policies adopted by consecutive Israeli government support the wars and conflicts and do not lead to political solution for the current crisis.
He blamed the Israeli government for failure of negotiations in resolving the issue of Jerusalem or the Palestinian cause in the conviction that the popular situation must bear its historic responsibilities in the face of the occupation and its measures and beyond the ceiling of power and even impose its will on power.
Regarding the Palestinian reconciliation, he said, “In light of the current political development, it is necessary to confront the division in order to restore unity to end all internal contradiction in terms of contradiction with the occupation and its procedures.” He stressed that the Palestinian factions face increasing pressures to achieve reconciliation, while the matter needs strong political will.
He added that the new American administration did not present or announce the shape and content of the new initiative or the deal of the century that President Donald Trump talked about, noting that the American envoy for peace, Gerald Kouchner, in his recent visit and meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas, asked for a four-month deadline to prepare a clear plan to achieve peace.
He added that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stressed that the Palestinian leadership will not accept any initiative except on the basis of the two-state solution to establish the Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967.
He pointed out to the obstacles that the Israeli government is putting in the direction of any solution to the peace through the continuation of its aggressive practices towards the Palestinians with settlement projects in the occupied West Bank and Judaization in Jerusalem.
