Egypt's Ambassador in Beirut Mohamed Zayed said on Saturday that he is following up with the Lebanese authorities a probe into the death of an Egyptian tourist who drowned in the waters of Jeita Grotto.

In statements, the diplomat said he trusts the transparent and objective investigations carried out by the Lebanese authorities into the incident.

He added that he is following up the measures of bringing the body back home, offering condolences to the family of the deceased.

The Jeita Grotto is a system of two separate, but interconnected, karstic limestone caves spanning an overall length of nearly 9 kilometers.

The caves are situated in the Nahr al Kalb valley within the locality of Jeita, 18 kilometres north of the Lebanese capital Beirut.
