Gaza - Mohamed Habib
Member of Revolutionary council of Fatah Osama Al Qwasimi called Hamas movement for working seriously to end the current state of division between the Palestinian factions to pave the way for forming a national unity government and to hold legislative and presidential elections.
He warned Hamas of the step to form a committee to manage the governmental work in the Gaza Strip, saying that such a step could increase the current division among the Palestinians and allow for full separation between Gaza and the West Bank.
He added, in an interview with "Arabs Today", Hamas' leaders realize that they worked to impede the governmental work in Gaza, while the Palestinian government was keen to perform its role towards the Palestinians living in the besieged strip.
He added that Fatah has not received any response from Hamas over the Qatari proposal to end the Palestinian division. He added the Qatari government exerted increasing efforts since June to end the Palestinian division, while Hamas has not given any response to the Qatari proposal.
On the other hand, the Palestinian leader praised his government's relation with the Arab countries describing them as strategic relations. He added that the Palestinian Authority builds its relations with the Arab partners upon the strategic interests.
He praised the recent visits conducted by the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to a number of Arab states, saying that these visits aim to form a unified Arab position from the Palestinian issue before the launch of the coming Arab Summit scheduled to be held in Amman on March 29.
He stressed that Abbas will focus during the summit on the necessity of holding a serious dialogue with the American Administration over the future of the peace process. He added that the Palestinian Authority does not adopt a position against the negotiation with Israel, while it insists on holding serious talks on the basis of the two-state solution.
