A member of the Political Bureau of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Talal Abu-Zarifa, said that recent months witnessed a number of political developments whose results cannot be ignored, whether positive or negative, due to their repercussions on the Palestinian situation.
He added, in an interview with “Arabs Today”, that the most prominent positive development was manifested in the uprising of Jerusalem and al-Aqsa in July, where the large masses in Jerusalem fought against the occupation measures aimed at tightening its grip on the city and imposing sovereignty over the Holy Temple.
He stressed that the Palestinian people managed to force the Netanyahu government to cancel all its security measures after 14/7 of electronic gates and cameras on the doors of the mosque.
The Palestinian politician stressed that the Palestinian people and factions should realize the lessons from the battle of Jerusalem and to go to unity as soon as possible, saying that the unity of Palestinian people succeeded in overcoming all aspects of political division and disagreement, whether the unity of political and religious forces or unity of purpose and slogans against the Israeli occupation.
He added that there is a need to keep the element of organization, which succeeded in providing the requirements of steadfastness to the masses at the door of the tribes and embrace the arrivals from outside the city to the role of political forces acting in a non-public means the fall of martyrs in this battle the other factor that contributed to this victory.
He blamed the Israeli government for failure of negotiations in resolving the issue of Jerusalem or the Palestinian cause in the conviction that the popular situation must bear its historic responsibilities in the face of the occupation and its measures and beyond the ceiling of power and even impose its will on power.
Abu Zarifa added, “In light of the current political development, it is necessary to confront the division in order to restore unity to end all internal contradiction in terms of contradiction with the occupation and its procedures.”
In the same context, the Palestinian politician stressed the need for holding the meeting of Palestinian National Council as soon as possible, saying that it is the only way to renew the legitimacy of Palestinian Liberation Organization’s institutions to face the coming challenges facing the Palestinian issue as whole.
He added that that there are many arrangements for the holding of the Palestinian National Council, through consultations involving all factions, saying that the meeting comes in the framework of preparations for the meeting of Palestinian National Council.
He said, in an interview with “Arabs Today”, that reduction of US aid to the Palestinian Authority, among the items on the agenda of the Executive Committee meeting, as well as the political situation in Palestine,
reconciliation and the convening of the National Assembly.”
