President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi (R)

Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi on Friday stressed that his internationally recognised government is extending an olive branch to achieve security and stability in Yemen and engage in joint efforts to achieve development and build the country for all Yemenis, the Yemen News Agency reported.

Hadi was speaking during a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Riyadh, Oleg Ozerov, in which they discussed the situation in Yemen and the suffering of the Yemeni people from the catastrophic consequences of the war being waged by the rebel Houthi group and militia loyal to ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The two parties also discussed ways to promote and enhance bilateral relations between Yemen and Russia in all spheres.

"We are seeking peace, harmony and peaceful coexistence with the Arab and regional surroundings. We are extending an olive branch to achieve security and stability in Yemen and work together to build (the country) and achieve development that all the Yemeni people seek while rejecting exclusion, marginalisation and the language of arms that the coup perpetrators adopted as a way to impose a logic that is hostile to our society and Arab surroundings," President Hadi stated.

The legitimate Yemeni government, President Hadi added, is reacting positively with any efforts seeking to enforce the international legitimacy resolutions on Yemen, in particular UN Security Council Resolution 2216, fulfil national responsibilities and resume the political process.

The Yemeni president also praised Russia's support for his country and the constitutional legitimacy as well as Russian positive positions that support peace efforts in Yemen based on the UN Security Council's resolutions, in particular Resolution 2216.

For his part, the Russian ambassador to Saudi Arabia reiterated his country support for Yemen and the constitutional legitimacy, Yemen's peace, security and unity.

The Russian diplomat also stressed that Russia supports peace efforts for Yemen including those being made by United Nation's Special Envoy for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, to achieve stability, unity, prosperity and construction in Yemen.
