Aleksander Ceferin of Slovenia has been elected Wednesday as the new president of UEFA at a meeting of European football’s governing body in Athens.
The 48-year-old lawyer received 42 of the 55 votes against 13 for his Dutch challenger Michael van Praag. Ceferin will take on the remainder of Platini's term of office, until 2019.
Ceferin has been head of the Slovenian football association (NZS) since 2011 and has served on the UEFA Legal Committee since 2011.
