John Isner, fresh off his shocking win last week over world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, needed three sets Friday to reach the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open. Isner got past Nikolay Davydenko 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to join Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray in the third round. Nadal, who lost to Roger Federer in the semifinals last week at the Masters event in Indian Wells, Calif., breezed to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Santiago Giraldo. Nadal, seeded second in this tournament, is tied with Federer in all-time Masters championships with 19 each. Murray, the fourth seed, coasted to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alejandro Falla. Murray lost his first match at Indian Wells. No. 6 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga advanced with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Xavier Malisse; seventh-seeded Tomas Berdych ousted Nicolas Mahut 7-5, 6-1; ninth-seeded Janko Tipsarevic won over David Nalbandian 7-5, 6-3; and No. 13 Gilles Simon eliminated qualifier Roberto Bautista-Agut 6-4, 6-2.
