Right-handed starting pitcher Jason Marquis, cut loose by Minnesota, has been signed to a minor-league contract by San Diego, the Padres said Tuesday. Marquis, 33, will be assigned to Class AA San Antonio. The 13-year-veteran was released by the Twins after seven starts this season. He was hit hard in his stint with Minnesota, going 2-4 while compiling an 8.47 ERA. Marquis missed part of spring training while tending to his 7-year-old daughter, who suffered a lacerated liver in a bicycle accident at her New York home that required a long hospitalization. The hurler was released by the Twins Saturday. Marquis sports a 106-102 record with a 4.63 ERA in 333 games for the Atlanta, St. Louis, Chicago Cubs, Colorado, Washington, Arizona and the Twins.
