Don Henley Averia, a regular trainee at the Qatar Badminton Academy, heads to Canada this July 25-29, 2012 to compete in the 2012 Pan-American Junior Badminton Championships. Don will play in the Under-11 Boys Singles Category as part of the USA Badminton delegation.  He became an official member of the delegation after sweeping the Under-11 Boys Singles title in the USA Badminton Junior  International Trials held In Boston, Massachusetts last April 6-8,  2012.  His impressive win-loss record of 7-0 at the trials made him a top favourite for the Pan-Am Championships.   The 2012 Pan-American Junior Badminton Championships is an annual event of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).  Badminton champions from the Carribean, North, Central, and South America compete in different age categories in singles and doubles events. Don has been training at the Qatar Badminton Academy since he was 5 years old. Turning 9 last February 2012, he has already won several tournaments in the under-10 and under-13 singles and doubles categories in Qatar and UAE. Qatar Badminton Academy was giving training for the kids from 2008 onwards in the Qatar Badminton Club and children of the academy have won several tournaments under different categories of the junior events. Mr. Khallol Roy, SAI (Sports Authority of India) &BAI (Badminton Association of India) accredited Coach and Arun Vijayakumar, former Kerala State Player and GCC badminton Champion, are the main coaches of the Qatar Badminton Academy. In the recently concluded Qatar Open Tournament and Ali Bin Ali Qatar Badminton Open tournament conducted by Qatar Badminton Association, Children of Qatar Badminton Academy exceled. Some of the notable players of the academy were: •  Koshy Prasad – Winner U 19 boys singles & Doubles QBC open Runner up U19 boys doubles in Ali Bin Ali open • Ajay Satish – U13 Boys Singles and Doubels champion & U19 Boys doubles Runner up in QBC open and U16 Boys doubles Runners up in Ali Bin Ali open. • Krishna Pramod Kumar- Winner U19 girls Singles,Runner up in U19 Girls doubles in Ali Bin Ali open . Runner up in U 19 Girls Singles and doubles in the QBC  open. • Anjali Satish Kumar- Runner up in U19 Girls doubles in Ali Bin Ali Open . • Shehnaz Baji – U16 Girls Singles Runner up in QBC Open. • Sucharita Sreedharan- Runner up in U19 Girls Singles in Ali Bin Ali open. • Kavya K Nair- Winner of U19 Girls Doubles in QBC open & U16 Girls Doubles Runner up in Ali Bin Ali open. Apart from the above, SuhaimsayedMohd, Arun Haridas have shown their talents in the Under 16 boys category. In the Under 13 Boys category QBA have very good talents like Steve John Thomas, Karthik Pramodkumar and lots of upcoming potential talents. In the under 13 Girls, notable talents like Ustha Priyadarshi Samal, Adithi Anil, Sreebhargavi Bhaskar, Reva Bipin Shetehave shown remarkable performances in the tournaments. In the under 10-category Don Heneley won the Singles and double title partnering Reha Arshad beating Advaith Raghav and Shourya Joshi of QBA. Joan Mary Thomas won the girls singles title beating Neha Shetty of also of QBA in the Ali Bin Ali open tournament. Quite good number of highly potential and  talented kids are training in the QBA and will be in the limelight in the years to come.
