Loris Baz has taken his turn at the top of the Superstock 1000 timesheets at Monza as rain made its presence felt during second free practice. The MRS Kawasaki rider struggled for pace in the dry around the high-speed Italian circuit but was able to show favourable pace in the trickier damp conditions that met the SSTK riders in FP2. Running former BSB rider Baz close was Fabio Massei aboard the only Honda CBR1000RR in the field, while wild-card rider Tommaso Gabrielli leapt up the leaderboard on his eponymous Aprilia RSV-4 to assume the third best time. Behind him, Eddi La Marra was fourth best on the Barni Ducati 1199 Panigale, ahead of Marco Bussolotti, Christoffer Bergman, Alen Gyorfi, Ondrej Jezek, Markus Reiterberger and Massimo Parziani. Missing from the timesheets, however, was Sylvain Barrier, the championship leader a doubt for the remainder of the weekend after dislocating his shoulder in a crash shortly after setting his provisional pole position lap in Q1.
