Uruguayan side Liverpool won 3-0 against Bolivia's Universitario in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana first round tie on Wednesday. A brace by Carlos Nunez helped Julio-Cesar Antunez's Liverpool claim their first international win with the goals coming in a little over 20 minutes. Nunez opened the scoring in the 11th minute when he finished off a move he had started on the right side. Seven minutes later hand ball by Enrique Flores resulted in a penalty and Paulo Pezzolano-Suarez doubled the advantage. Three minutes later Nunez completed the win with a third goal following a defensive mistake. "I am very, very happy. This is huge happiness for us. Beyond my goals, the whole team made big effort to clinch this win," Nunez told Fox Sports. The return match will be played in Sucre, Bolivia, on 16 August when Liverpool will have to cope with the effects of playing at 2,800 metres above sea level. Venezuelan side Deportivo Tachira played out a goalless draw with Ecuadorian giants Barcelona. Even the debut of Venezuela midfielder Cesar Gonzalez, who came off the bench in the second half, failed to provide a spark for Tachira and they could not beat Barcelona keeper Maximo Banguera who made a number of saves in the second half.
