The World Organization of the Barb Horse (OMCB) celebrated Saturday in Algiers the 25th anniversary of its creation, an opportunity for the cradle countries (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia) to defend authenticity of these Horses and protect it from any deviation. Caroubier racecourse has hosted several festivities including an exhibition on the history of Barb, an exhibition of jumping and a fantasia in the presence of several members of the government. \"These events are designed to promote the heritage of Algeria and North Africa in general. We are here to give them all the importance,\" said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Rachid Benaissa. \"It is often said that Algeria is an equestrian society. This horse carries cultural and historical values of our country,\" he added in a statement to reporters on the sidelines of the riding day held on the eve of the holding of the general meeting of OMCB. Founded in 1987 and accredited by the Algerian authorities in 1991, OMCB aims to preserve, improve, raise awareness, enhance and promote the North African and Arab Barb horses. This NGO was created by the cradle countries, namely Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. The other member countries are France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg. Through these celebrations, the cradle countries want to show their interest in preserving the Barb horses behind the emergence of other species of horse in the world. \"Today, Western countries pay special attention to the horse which incites us, the countries of the cradle to defend it against any deviation,\" said the Secretary General of OMCB, Mounir Zerhouni.
