At least 21 people were killed and 59 others injured in the blast that hit Mar Gerges Church in Tanta, Gharbiya Health Ministry Undersecretary Mohammad Sharshar said.

High alert has been announced in all the governorate's hospitals including emergency units. Also medical teams have been summoned to deal with the critical conditions of the injured, according to the official.

Blood donation campaigns have been launched to rescue the injured in the blast.
