4 sentenced to death over murder case in Sharqiya

A criminal court in Sharqiya sentenced four persons to death over murdering an engineer.

The case dates back to April 2011 when the body of a 58-year-old electrical engineer, from Giza, was found in a mountainous area in Bilbeis, Sharqiya, with cut wounds in the neck and stabs in the chest.

Investigations revealed that the rich engineer used to pamper a widowed housewife (25 years) with presents and proposed to her.

The woman planned with her brother, nephew and a male friend to murder the engineer and steal his money.

She led him to the desert highway claiming she wants to do some shopping in a large mall in Obour City, Sharqiya, and her accomplices stopped them at a mountainous area on their way back.

They stabbed him to death with cold weapons, stole and changed the features of his car, and used his keys to rob his house.

The court handed down the death penalty today to the four and submitted their documents to the Mufti for approval, a procedural step adopted in all cases which involve death sentences.

The Mufti's rulings are not binding, yet it is customary for the court to adopt them.
