Egypt/Immunity/Parliament Larger - Smaller - Reset
CAIRO, March 6 (MENA) - House Speaker Ali Abdel Aal said Sunday proposals presented by some MPs to extend the immunity outside the House of Representatives are "unconstitutional".

During a parliamentary session, Abdel Aal refused to present the suggestions in this regard for discussion, describing them as "violation of the constitution".

There are other proposals calling for canceling the immunity even inside the parliament, he added.

During the press conference, Abdel Ghaffar said the ministry is keen on briefing the community members on facts about terrorist attacks plotted by terrorist groups from inside and outside the country.

He warned of the continued Muslim Brotherhood (MB) plots to destabilize Egypt, stressing that Egyptian security bodies were able to foil many of these terrorist plots the past period.

"The arrest of murders of former prosecutor general Hisham Barakat was one of our priorities," he noted, adding that investigations were launched a long time ago using modern techniques to uncover circumstances of this terrorist attack.

Abdel Ghaffar added that policemen managed to uncover circumstances of this terrorist attack and many other terrorist plots that targeted senior Egyptian officials.

Leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood in Turkey in coordination with the Palestinian Hamas movement were behind the assassination of Barakat in June 2015, he said.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the Palestinian group took part in executing and planning this terrorist attack.

Speaking about details of the assassination of Barakat, Abdel Ghaffar said former health ministry spokesperson and now-fugitive MB leader Yehia Moussa issued directives to carry out the assassination of Barakat.
