Security has been beefed up in Qena ahead of celebrations marking the Mawled el Nabawi (the birth of the Prophet Muhammad of Islam) and Christmas, Qena Security Chief Salah el Din Hassan said on Tuesday.

All churches and vital facilities have been highly secured to provide security during celebrations.

All vacations have been cancelled for policemen to ensure a heavy police presence, he added.
