An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted at dawn Monday the southern Jordanian city of Aqaba.

    After about half an hour, another earthquake measured 2.5 degrees hit the west of the city. The first earthquake located at a depth of 13 km south of Aqaba on the Red Sea and was felt by the residents, Jordan news agency (Petra) quoted Head of Jordan Seismological Observatory Dr. Mahmoud Qaryouti as saying. 

    The second earthquake occurred at a depth of 18 km near the city's north-western borders with Palestine. In April, two earthquakes measuring 3.9 and 3.1 on the Richter scale hit the Dead Sea.
