A 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck on Thursday Cairo, Alexandria and Marsa Matrouh at 3:45 a.m. local time.

The temblor's epicenter was in Abu Gharadik in the north of the western desert, at a depth of 10 km, 170 north-west of Alexandria and 142 km south-east Matrouh, head of the National Institute of Astronomical and Geophysical Research (NRIAG) Abu el Ella Mohamed told MENA.

This area has not witnessed any quakes for the past 100 years, he further said.

No casualties or losses were reported as a result of the quake, he added.
