Fire fighters gather for a quake rescue mission in Zhaotong

Five people were injured and some old houses damaged after a 4.9-magnitude earthquake hit Ludian County in southwest China's Yunnan Province Wednesday, local authorities said Thursday.

The quake hit Ludian at 7:11 p.m. Wednesday with epicenter monitored at 27.07 degrees north latitude and 103.36 degrees east longitude. The quake struck at a depth of 10 km, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

All the injured have been rushed to hospital for treatment.

Residents living near the epicenter said the tremor was "quite strong."

A section of the road to Longtoushan Township has been closed due to falling rocks.

A 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit Ludian in 2014, killing 617 people and causing huge property losses.
