earthquake rocks southeastern Taiwan

A powerful earthquake with preliminary magnitude of 6.0 struck off the coast of southeastern Taiwan on Thursday, Russia Today reported. 

According to the Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan, the earthquake occurred at 11:52 pm local time some 32 kilometers (20 miles) southeast of Taitung City with a depth of about 20 kilometers.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) put the magnitude lower, at 5.7. 

There has been no information on victims or damage caused by the tremor so far. No tsunami warning has been issued.
