Mighty winds topping out above 80 mph whipped parts of Canada Sunday, officials said. The gale-force winds were recorded in southern Alberta, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. The strongest winds, reaching 81 mph, were reported in Pincher Creek in southwestern Alberta province, Environment Canada said. The winds only reached 57 mph in Calgary but that was enough to prompt officials there to put the city\'s municipal emergency plan into effect, which included shutting down the downtown area to traffic and pedestrians. Calgary police Sgt. Kevin Cain said windows were blown out at the TD Square shopping center downtown, roofing material and debris was seen flying off downtown buildings and one house\'s roof went sailing, the CBC said. Trees were reported ripped out of the ground citywide.
