China's meteorological authority on Sunday issued a yellow alert for high temperatures for many localities, with temperatures expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius in some areas.
In Guangdong Province in southern China, Chongqing Municipality in southwest China, Shanxi Province in north China and other places, temperatures over 35 degrees Celsius are expected on Sunday, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said in a statement.
Hebei Province in north China, Jiangxi Province in east China, Turpan basin in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and other areas, could see temperatures top 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday, said the center.
China has a four-color-coded warning system for severe weather, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
