Cairo - MENA
Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy held a meeting on Tuesday with his Burkina Faso counterpart on the sidelines of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) on ways of boosting cooperation and activating a protocol signed between the two sides in the environment field.
"Egypt is not an importer or exporter of the illegal wildlife trade, but it is a transit country," Fahmy said.
He stressed readiness to reconsider customs laws and procedures to eliminate the illegal wildlife trade.
Egypt will take over the two-year presidency of the AMCEN on Wednesday.
During its two-year term, Egypt will be in charge of coordinating action between the AMCEN office, the UN Environment Program and the African Union to implement recommendations and resolutions of the 15th session.
