Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab instructed on Saturday the Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center to carry out a poll on whether or not to apply the daylight saving time.

In April 2011, the cabinet headed by then-prime minister Essam Sharaf endorsed a decree canceling daylight saving time, it was reapplied in May 2014.

Daylight saving time was started in Egypt for the sake of conserving energy.
